The story of Bhagya Lakshmi begins with the charitable Lakshmi Bajwa residing in a town with her family. When Lakshmi’s parents pass away while traveling to her marriage, their lives are flipped around. Lakshmi relocates to her uncle’s home in Mumbai along with her two sisters after her wedding is canceled. When Lakshmi protects Rishi Oberoi from a fire blast at his workplace in Mumbai, they cross each other’s paths. Rishi Oberoi is an entrepreneur and the founder of Oberoi Radiant. Lakshmi’s grandmother attempts to marry Lakshmi to Balwinder, who had previously attempted to sexually harass her, in order to obtain the money that belongs to Lakshmi. Rishi assists Lakshmi as Balwinder behaves badly with her once more before the wedding.
While Rishi’s mother, Neelam, is a believer in a horoscope teller who claims that Rishi has a defect in his destiny that may be removed by marrying the woman whose horoscope matches her exactly. After the miscommunication is resolved and Rishi’s parents come to present Lakshmi with shagun, Virendra questions Lakshmi about whether she wants to wed Rishi. Lakshmi feels hesitant and discouraged after her two failed relationship efforts. However, after being comforted by Virendra (who she recognizes as her father), Lakshmi decides to go on a date with Rishi and make up her mind afterward. So, Rishi and Lakshmi prepare for their date. Then, Lakshmi is fascinated by him. Later, when the two are out to dinner, Lakshmi again notes his generosity. Rano and Neha receive a call from Lakshmi informing them as Rishi is not at all what they had imagined. Balwinder hits Rishi’s car on the way back, but they both manage to protect one another.
At the celebration, Rishi and Lakshmi become romantically involved, and Rishi then asks Lakshmi to marry him. She consents to the union. The following day, Rishi’s father makes public Rishi and Lakshmi’s commitment. Except for Neha, Rano, and Balwinder, everyone smiles. Balwinder tries to break off the engagement by presenting some fictitious intimate photos of himself and Lakshmi, but Rishi displays his complete trust in her, clears her of all wrongdoing, and jails Balwinder. Both of them become engaged, and Lakshmi begins to fall for Rishi.
As Lakshmi proves to be the ideal partner for Rishi as the plot develops, and after overcoming many obstacles, they get wedded too. After the wedding, Rishi’s actual self is revealed, showing that he never truly loved Lakshmi and just wed her out of obligation to his family. Also, when Lakshmi repeatedly protects Rishi from the Defect in his horoscope, he still has a relationship with his lover Malishka. Rishi, meanwhile, unknowingly falls in love with Lakshmi due to her gracious nature.
Rishi seeks to get married to Malishka (Myra Mishra) despite his relationship with to Lakshmi because he thinks he likes her. When Lakshmi observes Rishi and Malishka performing their wedding ceremonies, she is forced to face the truth. Following these heartbroken stages, Lakshmi and Rishi secretly part ways, and Rishi plans to wed Malishka because they were unable to finish the rituals when Lakshmi found them. Even though Rishi and Lakshmi are now struck with the deepest love for one another, they have been unable to conquer their thoughts, which keeps them apart. Malishka continues to tell Rishi that he had always adored her and that his feelings for Lakshmi are solely the result of his remorse.
